Why

DO YOU NEED HEALTH AND SAFETY IN THE WORKPLACE.

Workplace health and safety in South Africa is not just a legal requirement—it’s a critical component of a responsible and thriving business. Section 8(1) of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) mandates that every employer must provide a safe working environment.

Compliance with health and safety regulations is crucial. It allows you to identify potential risks, prevent incidents, and avoid fines, penalties, and severe injuries. At Katope Consultancy, we help you make a positive difference in your organization’s approach to safety.

01
HEALTH AND SAFETY SYSTEMS DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION

A strong health and safety system is the foundation of a safe workplace. We’ll help you develop a system that establishes best practices, policies, and procedures to protect your employees and manage incidents.

02
COMPLIANCE AUDITING OF HEALTH AND SAFETY SYSTEMS

Your health and safety system needs continuous review. We conduct thorough audits to find gaps in your policies and procedures. This process helps your organization learn from past experiences and maintain overall compliance with the Health and Safety Act.

03
THIRD PARTY HEALTH AND SAFETY AGENTS

We can act as a third-party agent to manage and oversee your organization’s health and safety duties. This includes ensuring the safety of all people who enter your premises or sites.

04
ON-SITE SAFETY OFFICERS

Katope provides qualified on-site safety officers to clients as and when required. The responsibility of the safety officer is mainly to evaluate and monitor health and safety hazard on-site and to develop strategies to control and mitigate risks on site. An on-site safety officer is also qualified to conduct safety and environmental audits, perform workplace inspections, and conduct safety training programmes.

05
CONDUCTING RISK ASSESSMENTS & DRAFTING SAFE WORK PROCEDURES, METHODS & STATEMENTS

Katope is experienced in drafting policies that recognise the integral part these documents form of the organisations’ overall performance. A risk assessment will identify potential pitfalls while the procedures, methods and statements will form the backbone of the organisations’ health and safety policy.

06
CONSTRUCTION SITE COMPLIANCE

We ensure that all hazards are identified and controlled throughout your construction project. The South African construction industry has clear legislative requirements, and our thorough approach will ensure there are no unexpected risks on your project.

07
HAZARD IDENTIFICATION

Hazard identification involves evaluating anything from a situation, to an item, to a thing that has the potential to cause harm to any individual or a number of individuals. Katope is experienced in identifying hazards and risk factors and in analysing and evaluation the associated risk. Once a hazard has been identified, Katope will proceed to determine ways in which to eliminate the hazard or control the risk where it cannot be eliminated.

08
GAP ANALYSIS

A gap analysis not only promotes safety but also serves to identify and eliminate incidents that may hamper organisational performance. Katope will undertake a gap analysis of your organisation in consultant with key personnel. During this consultation current policies, procedures and training programmes will be discussed and reviewed. Based on the outcome of these discussions a priority action plan will be formulated for implementation.

09
S.H.E LEGISLATION AUDITS

A legislation audit is designed to identify areas of non-compliance in the organisation’s operations and to provide a holistic look at any risks associated with these operations. Katope’s audit will provide the organisation with recommendations on how to effectively address any possible risks and outline the most appropriate corrective measures to be taken.
